Centre for Ayurveda & Indian Systems of Healing (CAISH) Educational & Wellness Centre has been set up to promote East Indian Medicine through workshops and training programs in Canada. CAISH is the first organization of its kind in North America to offer various modalities under Indian Medicine.
CAISH will be running training programs through the year, along with short courses and workshops. CAISH aims to provide the highest level of training and support to all students with teachers, of a high caliber background in Ayurveda, Yoga, Indian Naturopathy, and Nadi Vigyan trained originally in India.
ADMISSIONS
The Centre for Ayurveda & Indian Systems of Healing offers equal opportunity to
all persons regardless of race, religion, color, gender, marital status, age, status or
physical handicaps in all matters of the institution.
ADDMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates applying for admission to any of the courses offered must have the
following as pre-requisites:
- Two, or more years of post secondary education
- Keenness to learn this ancient Indian System of Medicine - Vedic & Yogic
approach
- Proficiency in English
Refer to specific programs in the Course and Programs section in this guide, for any
additional admission requirements.
PROCEDURE
Applicants must submit the following for acceptance consideration into any of the
programs:
- Completed CAISH application form
- Two recent passport sized photographs
- All transcripts of secondary and post-secondary education
- A current resume (Mandatory for professional & practitioner courses).
- Proof of credentials, such as professional designation, membership in good
standing, technical certification, etc(Only for diploma program).
- $100.00 non refundable Registration Fee (Please make cheque payable to
Treasured Knowledge Ayu-Yog Inc.)
INTERVIEW
Candidates with a complete application form meeting the basic requirements of the Institute will be invited for interview before being accepted into a program.
The admission committee's decision will be communicated to the applicant via letter or phone.
GRADUATION
CAISH presents a formal and festive graduation ceremony for graduates, students,
friends, and family members. A certificate of completion is awarded to students who
successfully complete the entire program in good academic standing. Students who
complete the first two levels receive an Ayurvedic Health Practitioner certificate.
Students who complete level one of the program will receive a certificate of
completion as an Ayurvedic Counselor. Students must have all tuition and fees paid in
full in order to graduate.
CERTIFICATION
To be able to practice as an Ayurvedic health care provider, all students are required
to fulfill all the examination & assessment requirements (refer to student policy
and course of conduct). Once successfully graduated students will apply to the
registration body for their registration number that will then be followed by getting
themselves insured for malpractice insurance & professional liability.
TRANSFER APPLICANTS AND ADMISSION WITH ADVANCE STANDING
Students previously enrolled in another acceptable institution of Alternative Medicine
may apply for admission with advanced standing. Such applicants must arrange for
submission of transcripts and records to CAISH. [It is also the responsibility of the
student to provide course description(s).] The Admission Committee will determine
the level of placement in the curriculum of the accepted transfer student.
Health professionals will be given advanced standing based on the evaluation of their
previous achievements.
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
- All tuition fees are payable in full at the initial registration, or two weeks prior to the
start of semester(s).
- Any outstanding tuition, with approval of the registrar, may be paid monthly on a
selected due date.
- Tuition and other fees are payable in cash, cheque or credit card only.
- Tuition will be annually reviewed and adjusted to meet the program growth, needs,
inflation, etc.
- Any student in an ongoing program not able to pay full fees at the time of registration may
be allowed to pay by installments. The first installment must be a minimum $1,000 followed by an installment plan. Students will have to seek the registrar's approval for this option. Installment fees and interest applies.
LATE PAYMENT PENALTY
A Penalty Fee of $45.00 plus interest, as applicable, will be charged for each late
payment or non payment for insufficient funds, regardless of original mode of
payment.
REFUNDS AND CANCELLATION POLICY
Withdrawals: Requests for withdrawal must be addressed to 'The Registrar' in
writing.The official date of withdrawal will be the date the registrar receives the notification.
Refunds: Only Tuition will be refunded before courses begin. Once courses
have begun, no refunds will be given. Only a transfer to another
course or semester will be granted.
TUTION AND OTHER FEES
Tuition: Tuition does not include GST or material fees.
Materials: Material fees are charged for handouts, herbal supplies, theraputic
supplies, books, student liability insurance, and other miscellaneous
expenses.
REGISTRATION
Students must register by the "due date". It is the responsibility of the student that
they are officially registered with the Registrar and all fees and tuition paid in full or as
pre-arranged and approved. The student must inform the Registrar of any address
and/or telephone number change.
ACADEMIC YEAR
Fall Semester: October - December
Winter Semester: January - March
PLEASE NOTE: Courses will only be offered with sufficient registration.
ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to be punctual, have at least 90% attendance for each course,
and 100% attendance in the clinical course. In the case of illness or bereavement,
students must inform the course instructor.
10% of final grades are allocated to attendance.
EVALUATION AND GRADES
Each course is graded separately with 70% pass marks.

MAKE-UP / SUPPLEMENT EXAMINATION
Students who missed any examination due to illness or special circumstances will be allowed to write a supplement/makeup examination, on production of doctor's certificate or letter explaining the circumstances.No supplemental examination will be allowed if failure is due to the student's
absentee record.
REASSESSMENT AND REMEDIATION
When a student gets less than a 70% grade in one or two courses, while the student's
overall average is promising, she/he will be given opportunity for remediation.
All students are required to speak to the instructor to find out reasons for failure or
low marks before approaching the Registrar for remediation. The student must pay a
remediation fee of $75.00 per course before sitting for the remediation.
REPORTING OF GRADES
Before the beginning of the next semester, students will receive their progress reports and any exam results by mail. Official transcripts can be obtained from registrar office on payment of a $5.00 fee.
ACADEMIC PROBATION
Students receiving less than 70% of the total marks in three or more courses per semester will be placed on probation. . Upon review of such a case, the student may
be given an opportunity to improve the grading and continue the program by writing a
supplementary examination.
SPECIAL EXAMINATION/ REPEATING A FAILED COURSE
When a student fails one course but has passed the other courses, the student
will be given one last opportunity to pass that examination by writing a challenge
examination. A challenge examination is a comprehensive examination to test the
ability of the student for that particular course. The only other remedy will be to repeat
that course by paying extra fees for the course.
ACADEMIC APPEAL
When a student does not show promising progress and fails repeatedly in the
course, has a high rate of absenteeism, or has personal reasons affecting his/her
performance in the course, they will be asked to withdraw or repeat the semester. In
such circumstances, unless it is an "honor code violation", the student will be given an
opportunity to appeal against any such decisions.
The appeal committee will be constituted of two members of the Institute, including
the course instructor and as circumstances may warrant an independent third
member. The student will be given ample opportunity to present his/her case before
the appeal committee. The decision or recommendation of the appeal committee
shall be binding with all parties.
DISMISSAL
Any student in Honour Code violation or in professional misconduct, (i.e. conduct
affecting patient care, patient confidentiality or the clinicians' well being), will be
dismissed from the Institute.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Students who have graduated as Ayurvedic Therapists or an equivalent from a school
outside Canada, and do not hold a Canadian License to practice as an Ayurvedic
Therapist in Canada, can apply for a 300 hour Internship Program with an associated
Ayurvedic doctor. This program will be helpful for those who are immigrants.
However, applications for this program are also accepted from students who have
graduated from a Canadian school but have a challenge applying for their license.
